Here is what the Nigeria Police Force spokesperson Frank Mba has tosay about the recent rise of female suicide bombers in Nigeria. "If you have been following the trends of terrorism worldwide, you will understand that use of female suicide bombers is actually not totally new. It is actually a new trend in our own part of the world. The reasons why established international terrorist organizations go for female suicide bombers is clear. The major reason is that women raise fewer suspicions, particularly with security layers, and so they take advantage of the fact that women raise fewer suspicion to try to indoctrinate and recruit female suicide bombers. The suspicion even becomes much lesser if the woman in question is a minor and that explains why. In addition to that is the fact that by rules of engagement that we are cultured to, male security operatives are not allowed to frisk or search females but we are equally developing counter terrorism strategies to deal with that.” "Nigerians should prepare to see more female police officers, more female bomb disposal experts, more female DSS operatives, more female soldiers actually in combat operations and carrying out stop-and-search,” he said

The body of the first victim of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria, who died in Lagos on Friday, has been cremated. Details of the cremation were not available at press time but Sunday Vanguard gathered that the eveny was witnessed by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, led by its Project Director, Professor Abdulsalam Nasidi, among others. The decision to cremate the body of the victim, it was further gathered, may not be unconnected with the deadly nature of the Ebola Virus which is known to be easily transmissible from human to human during handling of corpses of victims.
Few weeks ago, I got a call from a friend asking me out for a drink, but I was already at the Lagos airport. “I’m not going to be around for the next few days,” I told him. “I’m going to Abuja.” His immediate reaction was – “Why? What’s wrong? Do you want to bore yourself to death?” That’s the typical response I get whenever I tell someone I am travelling to Abuja. Abuja is a beautiful city with a terrible reputation for boredom. I have heard people in other cities speak of Lagos as a noisy, dirty and dangerous city filled with crazy people. In truth, everyone in Lagos is crazy. What else do you expect in a state crammed with 22 million people?
That is the Kaduna state Governor, Mukhtar Yero,in the above photo, visiting some of the victims of Wednesday July 23rd bomb blast in Kaduna state ....
Your guess is as good as mine. is that a HOSPITAL? for crying out loud the lives of these survivors are not safe. they can easily be infected with serious bacteria/virus from this same pathetic looking hospital. i wouldn't even treat my pet in this thing called a hospital...The governor should be ashamed of himself...how can you call yourself a governor of a whole state, and this is what you have to offer your people in terms of health care....#shamefulMuch!
anyways, please continue to see some more heartbreaking photos of the 'hospital' where the governor was 'proud' enough to go visit the victims..

The fate of the Air Algerie flight which vanished with 116 people on board en route from Burkina Faso to Algiers appears to have been uncovered after Mali's President confirmed wreckage has been found. Ibrahim Boubacar Keita said today that the wreckage of the flight had been spotted in his country's desert north. It is the third major aviation disaster in a week, following the MH17 disaster in Ukraine and the TransAsia Airways crash in Taiwan yesterday. Nearly 250 people died in these two crashes. The week's grim toll may now rise by 116 more. 'I have just been informed that the wreckage has been found between Aguelhoc and Kidal,' Keita said during a meeting of political, religious and civil society leaders in Bamako. He did not give any more details. Amid conflicting reports, Laurent Fabius, France's foreign minister said earlier today that no wreckage had been found, but believed the plane had 'probably crashed.' Air navigation services lost track of the Swiftair MD-83 around 50 minutes into the flight after the crew reportedly asked to change course over fears it was flying into a storm. The plane, which is operated by Air Algerie, was last picked up on radar at 1.55am GMT en route from Burkina Faso to Algiers.
The Netherlands declared its first national day of mourning in more than half a century Wednesday as a sign of respect for MH17 victims whose bodies were left to rot for days amid the wreckage. For one grieving mother, the arrival of the bodies marked a new stage of mourning and brought to an end the pain of seeing television images of victims lying in the undulating fields or in body bags being loaded into a train. “Waiting while the bodies were in the field and in the train was a nightmare,” said Silene Fredriksz-Hoogzand, whose son, Bryce, and his girlfriend Daisy Oehlers died in the crash.
Here below is the statement released by General Buhari on the how he escaped being killed in yesterday's Kaduna blast. "I was personally involved in a clearly targeted bomb attack today along Ali Akilu Road, Kawo – Kaduna about 2:30pm on my way to Daura. The unfortunate event, clearly an assassination attempt, came from a fast moving vehicle that made many attempts to overtake my security car but was blocked by my escort vehicle. We reached the market area of Kawo where he took advantage of our slowing down and attempted to ram my car and instantly denoted the bomb which destroyed all the three cars in our convoy. Continue...Unfortunately, when I came out of my vehicle I saw many dead bodies littered around. They were innocent people going about their daily business who became victims of mass murder. Thank God for His mercy, I came out unhurt but with three of my security staff sustaining minor injuries – they have been treated in hospital and discharged. Signed: General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) GCFR”

It often targets Muslim leaders opposed to its militant ideology. Curfew imposed Body parts and damaged vehicles lay on the busy Alkali Road in the city centre where the bomb targeting Mr Bauchi exploded, reports the BBC's Abdullahi Kaura Abubakar from the scene.

The meeting held yesterday .it took the president more than a 100 days after the girls have been abducted, and the begging of the 17 year old pakistani childright activist to be convinced that he needed to see the parents of the abducted girls. here is what the president said to the girls's parents; “Anyone who gives you the impression that we are aloof and that we are not doing what we are supposed to do to get the girls out is not being truthful. “Our commitment is not just to get the girls out, it is also to rout Boko Haram completely from Nigeria. But we are very, very mindful of the safety of the girls. We want to return them all alive to their parents. If they are killed in any rescue effort, then we have achieved nothing,” “Our duty now is to take all relevant steps to recover our girls alive and our primary interest is getting them out as safely as possible. I will not want to say much, but we are doing everything humanly possible to get the girls out. “This not the time for talking much. This is the time for action. We will get to the time that we will tell stories. We will get to the time that we will celebrate and I assure you that, by God’s grace, that time will come soon,” see more photos after the cut

Thank God for Malala's visit, because her visit has definitely pushed the president into meeting with the parents of the abducted borno girls. Malala had urged the president to do this and though people thought he wont, he really did. The president Goodluck Jonathan is presently in a closed-door meeting with about 51 girls who escaped from the Sambisa forest after they were kidnapped from their school over three months ago. Also at this meeting are parents of the girls, service chiefs, President of the Senate, David Mark, Governors Kashim Shettima of Borno and Isa Yuguda of Bauchi as well as members of the Federal Executive Council. i really hope something positive comes out of this meeting.
