A 28-year old Uwem Akpanebe, who killed his 75 years old aunty, Josephine George, yesterday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has explained why he did it! Narrating how it all happened, the suspect, detained at Akwa Ibom State Police headquarters, Uyo, told Vanguard that he decided to kill his aunty as the prayer houses he went to for solutions to his problems told him the person behind his woes was a close relative, who did not only spiritually block his chances of realising his aspirations, but was also plotting his death for money ritual. continue..
No fewer than 30 persons and a soldier were allegedly killed on Monday in Onitsha, the Anambra State capital, after some pro-Biafran protesters, said to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the declaration of the defunct Biafra republic, engaged soldiers and policemen in a bloody clash. Leaders of the protesters did not, however, produce the corpses of those said to have been killed by security operatives, but one of our correspondents saw two corpses in Onitsha on Monday. The late Biafran leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, declared the secession of the Republic of Biafra from Nigeria on May 30, 1966. The anniversary of the declaration, however, turned bloody when members of the Indigenous People of Biafra reportedly clashed with security agencies in Onitsha .
For the 35 years he served in the police, his main job was apprehending criminals, including suspected fraudsters. In those years, Mr. Christopher Igwe, a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, never suspected that he could one day be fleeced of his money by anyone. But Igwe said that was what happened to him. He told SUN Newsreporter that he was swindled of his N3 million retirement benefits by a man of God, the General Overseer of the Prophetic Light Ministry in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, 22-year-old Prophet Diepreye Samuel. Igwe had been told that his life would never remain the same after an encounter with the man of God. And indeed, his life changed the very moment he encountered the cleric. The only thing, according to Igwe, is that his life changed for the worst. He said he was swindled of his entire retirement benefits by the young Bayelsa-based miracle worker. While in service, Igwe had hoped that he would use his retirement benefits to beef up his car business. He had started selling cars towards the end of his service. But he told the reporter that his life took a total turn for the worst when he walked inside the prophet’s office and handed over his entire retirement benefits – N3 million – to the prophet who had told him that the cause of the setback in his car business was a result of evil manipulations in the money he used in starting the business.
Some suspected hired assassins have killed Michael Ogunnusi, the owner of the Allonze Hotel on Ishawo Road, Agric, Ikorodu, Lagos State. PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspects, who entered the hotel on a motorcycle, pretended that they were lodgers. The security guard who opened the gate was said to have been tied up by the armed men. They were said to have made straight for the victim’s room in the hotel and shot him dead. Punch's correspondent reliably gathered that the deceased was killed for allegedly dating the wife of the gunmen’s leader. It was learnt that the suspects took Ogunnusi’s phone before fleeing the hotel. A source said the men were four in number and brought a car which was parked outside. He said, “While one was in the car, three went in on a motorcycle, pretending to be customers; they got separate rooms to stay.
Some people have said Azuka and TY Bello want to exploit your innocence and make money off you…
No, I don’t think so. Till date, none of them has collected any money from me or whoever signs me on any contract.
Immediately I came on board, I had a bank account opened in my name and I’m the only signatory. Everywhere we go for any modelling contract, Aunty Azuka insists that cash should be paid to my account and not by hand. In fact, I am the one collecting from the two women.
I would go to Mummy TY’ house, play, eats and she gives me and my children things. Even Aunty Azuka does that too whenever I visit her. They don’t have my money with them and I believe whoever said that must be wicked. These are people who God used to take me to where I am today.
Seun Egbegbe who some weeks back apologised to Toyin Aimakhu for publicly dissing her and trying to taint her career, has spoken oput again. this time, he said he never postrated to beg Toyin and that he didnt sign any form of undertaking.. i just dont know the fear behind his apology then.. becasue thatapology sounded as if he has been warned or placed on some sort of notice.. anyways, below is what he said.. “To start with, I don’t know anything about that. And to say that I signed any undertaking before the Commissioner of Police because of what happened between Toyin Aimakhu and myself is a lie. Also anybody saying that I prostrated for her before the CP or any where should come forward with a proof. How can I be prostrating for her? It’s an unfounded rumour.
Forty-nine-year old Jafaru Sogei, who allegedly killed Rose, his wife of 26 years, last Friday, may be “mentally unstable”, the police said yesterday. Acting spokesman of Lagos Command Chukwuma Ozoani, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said there was possibility that the suspect is mentally unstable because he can barely speak for now. “We are carrying out various tests on him. There is the possibility that he might be mentally unstable. He might have psychiatric problem. He is in police hospital; we are checking his mental health. It is an all inclusive thing. He cannot stand on his own nor speak what we understand. “He only looks and murmurs and so we are going the extra mile to look at the issues and observe him.” Sogei was said to have ingested a poisonous chemical after allegedly slashing his wife’s throat and was found vomiting in the bathroom at about 4am. It was gathered that he attempted to set the body ablaze before his son, Richard, saw him and raised the alarm. Richard found his mother’s body when he went into the room to tell her that his father may be sick. Neighbours quickly held Sogei, who was subsequently arrested by policemen. continue..
This is the sad story of a Nigerian woman whose kidney was illegally harvested in Italy as published by Daily Sun Ms Julie Osamese felt a little feverish when she walked into the Ospedale Maria Vittoria Cibrario Hospital in Turin, Italy sometime in November 2008. Her only complaint was a slight increase in body temperature, and that she explained to the doctor who attended to her. Tests were conducted, following which she was given medication to use and instructed to return for evaluation after a week. But her second visit to the hospital could be described as the greatest mistake of her life. For this Nigerian lady, it marked the beginning of years of woe. It was the beginning of years of trauma during which she was moved to six other hospitals. She eventually ended up in a mental home, despite being mentally stable. Some of the hospitals Osamese was taken to include Amedeo Di Savoia Svizzerra and Ospedale San Giovanni Bossco. According to the chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Rita Orji, who recently led other members of the committee to investigate Osamese’s disheartening story, the woman, in her 30s and a legal immigrant in Italy, was, on her follow-up visit to the Ospedale Maria Vittoria Cibrario hospital, given drugs which made her dizzy.

So, yesterday, the story of a 4year old boy who fell into a gorrila pen at the Cincinnati Zoo caused serious backlash to the way security at the zoo handled the situation.(The Gorilla wa shot dead, after like 10 minutes of dragging the toddler around).
Now one twitter user @Sharlo_Xodecided to ask her mother what she would do, if for any reason, herself and her brother happens to fall into a gorilla pen.
The answers the mom gave were so hilarious.
That is one bad ass mother. Zero chill!! Hahaha
Read the back and forth text between mother and daughter after the cut.
''We claim to import food, but this is a lie. People just take the money out of the country. How many factories have we built? So I refused to devalue the naira. They talk about petroleum subsidy. I say what do they mean by subsidy? They say Nigeria’s petroleum is so cheap that it encourages smuggling into our neighbouring countries: Cameroon, Chad, Niger. But I know the four refineries we built can produce 450,000 barrels, we have 20 depots. we didn’t borrow a kobo. So even if we put something on top and pay the cost of refining and travels to filling stations and small overhead, we’ll still be selling at a good price. But they say there’s a lot of smuggling.
A twitter user, @Osi Sauve recently shared on his timeline, about a lady who was not allowed on the bridal train of her supposed bestie,, just because she is plus sized, and picture wont come out fine. What people find even more wicked is the fact that this lady that is getting married used the house of the 'fat girl' for her bridal shower, and has collected monetary gifts from her. people are wondering why her house and money is good, but her size is horrible to look at on her train..
I am just shocked at how shallow people are these days. so her train wont be picture perfect because the bestie is not lepa.. smh

Distraught children of late Roselyn Osiugie, the woman that was allegedly murdered by her husband last Friday in Oshodi area of Lagos, have revealed that their father had earlier attempted to take their mother’s life on two occasions. This is just as the family of the deceased alleged that the suspect, Jafar Osiugie, 50, killed her for ritual purpose. The last attempt on their mother’s life, according to the children, happened two weeks ago. The children alleged that on one of the occasions, their father, pinned their mother down and held her by the neck, forcing her to defecate on herself. But the 50-year-old suspect was said to have released his grip when his eldest son, Collins, 19, stumbled on the scene. About two weeks ago, Collins alleged, he met his father trying to suffocate his 46-year-old mother with a pillow. He said: “Immediately I entered the room, he was shocked and asked what I was doing there?” continue..

His boss, Olayinka Oyinloye, said he had warned him against his friendship with Wasiu after he was arrested for a crime he knew nothing about. Throughout the time of his detention, this so called friend did not check on him.

Check out the score card of #Buhari... Did you see the fight against corruption and how much has been recovered or stopped from being looted? Or how the government is trying to stop people from stealing the little funds that we have in the face of falling oil prices. Naaaaaaaaa. That can not be part of the yardstick. Meanwhile the reason all of these are in the terrible situation they are is because of corruption.
On January 22, 2016, I tweeted a joke which went viral. I had said that at meetings of the Federal Executive Council, the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, would address members and say 'turn to your neighbour and say, neighbour have you blamed Jonathan today'! Yes, it was a joke, but like most good jokes, it had and still has a basis in reality! The President and his ministers appear ill prepared for office and the evidence of this is their inability to take responsibility for the situation of things in Nigeria. Was it not John Burroughs who said "a man can fail many times, but he isn't a failure until he begins to blame somebody else"? Those words should be embossed on a plaque and placed in a very prominent location at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa. Seeing this admonition weekly may help members of the Federal Executive Council take responsibility and stop acting the victim. For example, Nigerians were shocked when the minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in December of 2015 that the Jonathan administration, which had left office six months ago, was responsible for the biting fuel scarcity the nation was and still is grappling with.

It has come to my attention that an article on the power sector is being circulated as one written by me. I would like to state categorically that I have not written any article on the power sector and certainly did not write the below article. Regardless of the contents of the article, whether positive or negative, it is grossly deceitful, dubious and indeed fraudulent to attempt to attribute what was not written by myself to my name. If at all this article was written by an ‘Abike Dabiri’ it certainly is not myself: Abike Dabiri-Erewa. The public should be warned of imposters. Thank you.

It is one year today since our administration came into office. It has been a year of triumph, consolidation, pains and achievements. By age, instinct and experience, my preference is to look forward, to prepare for the challenges that lie ahead and rededicate the administration to the task of fixing Nigeria. But I believe we can also learn from the obstacles we have overcome and the progress we made thus far, to help strengthen the plans that we have in place to put Nigeria back on the path of progress.
We affirm our belief in democracy as the form of government that best assures the active participation and actual benefit of the people. Despite the many years of hardship and disappointment the people of this nation have proved inherently good, industrious tolerant, patient and generous.
The past years have witnessed huge flows of oil revenues. From 2010 average oil prices were $100 per barrel. But economic and security conditions were deteriorating. We campaigned and won the election on the platform of restoring security, tackling corruption and restructuring the economy. On our arrival, the oil price had collapsed to as low as $30 per barrel and we found nothing had been kept for the rainy day. Oil prices have been declining since 2014 but due to the neglect of the past, the country was not equipped to halt the economy from declining.
Pastor Anita Ebhodaghe has refuted claims that she has reconciled with the General Overseer of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, and returned to the church. Ebhodaghe, in a statement by her solicitors, Attwaters Jameson Hill, on February 8, had confirmed the dissolution of the clergywoman’s marriage with Oyakhilome, wherein she announced that she would drop Oyahkilome from her name henceforth. Several blogs ignited an online frenzy last week with reports that the former couple had settled their differences out of court and that they had gotten back together. But Ebhodaghe, in a statement on her blog on Thursday, denied allegations that she had made up with the televangelist.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has released the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, who was arrested last Wednesday for allegedly helping a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to launder $153m. The EFCC had taken the bank MD before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court last week where the court ordered that he remained in EFCC custody for a week. However, a reliable source at the commission told our correspondent that Okonkwo made useful statements on the case and had given detectives all the information they needed, thus he was no longer needed. The source said the bank boss would be charged before a Federal High Court in Lagos next week for alleged money laundering, conspiracy and fraud. The detective, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said that the $153m emanated from the account of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

I was ushered into her room by two middle-aged women who were taking care of her. One of them was wife of one of her grandsons and the other, a great-great-grandchild. Her head being bare just as I entered, she quickly asked for a scarf to cover her all-white hair braided all-back. She was promptly handed her cap and scarf which she quickly put on.
She said jokingly that she had to cover her head to prevent the visitor from catching a glimpse of her hairstyle which was only meant for her husband’s eyes. I greeted her and she replied in Fulfulde language. She then greeted me in the Islamic way: Asalamu alaekum warahmotulahi wabarakatuhu. They said she had a considerable skill to speak in English, Hausa, Igbo, Fulfulde, Nupe, Igbira, Tiv, Kanuri, Kaje, Idoma and a few other languages. She enjoined all around to praise God with her for attaining the age of 160 without losing her senses or memory. We all chorused: Allahu akbar and then Alhamdulilahi. After some pleasantries, we tossed a few questions to Alhaja Alimatu Abdul Malik, said to be about 160 years old, arguably the oldest person in Nigeria. The interview was conducted in Yoruba.
How much do you remember of your childhood, Alhaja? I was born about 160 years ago to the family of Alhaji Kokewu-Kobeere in the Oja Gbooro area of Ilorin. I have witnessed the reigns of six emirs of Ilorin. I was born at a time when there was no means of recording dates of birth, when people were not literate enough to do that. But with the number of emirs who came to power and reigned in my lifetime in Ilorin, I believe my age should be around 160. One of my contemporaries was Sheu Ahmad Folorunsho Faagba who died at the age of 145, eight years ago. He was my classmate in Arabic school though I was about five years older than him.
When 26-year-old Abigail Olori met Alhaja Latifat and her husband three years ago, she felt she had met an angel in human form who would turn the odds of her life for good. Considering the fact that she had lost her parents and was saddled with the responsibility of catering for her siblings, she jumped at the offer to travel to Italy to work as an auxiliary nurse for the couple. Unknown to her, however, she was making the biggest mistake of her life. A look into the eyes of the frail looking Abigail revealed misery, pains and betrayal that she has been subjected to in the last three years. Coughing intermittently and straining herself to be audible, she narrated her ordeal in the hands of her traffickers. “I met Alhaja Latifat and her husband in 2013 when they came to Nigeria; then I was 23-years-old. I knew them via a relative of mine, Rofel, when I was residing in Bayelsa with my siblings. Rofel invited me to Lagos; it was during the visit to Lagos that I was introduced to Alhaja Latifat who promised to take me to Italy”, she stated. “Before the journey, they said they wanted me to become an auxiliary nurse for them in Italy but unfortunately I found myself in Libya. They took me via the desert. We were about 30 that were taken to Libya from Nigeria. Abigail Said: “Since I didn’t have parents, I was only able to raise N10, 000 which the alhaja claimed was for the passport she procured for me. The agreement was that I will work and pay her N2.4 million once I get to Italy which included the amount she spent to take me abroad and the return on her investment.
In yet another case of child marriage, the police in Lagos have arrested a 37-year-old man, Michael Ugwu, for taking a 12-year-old orphan, identified simply as Nneka (not real name) as a wife. She was given out in marriage by her grandfather, identified as Abada, a native doctor in Enugu State. The girl and Ugwu, who claims to work as a police SPY official at a federal ministry in Lagos, both hail from Aji in Enugu Ezike town, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State. A police source hinted that Ugwu, had gone to the Ipaja Police Division, Lagos to report that “his wife” ran away from home and had since been missing, but that it was until they found the girl, through the help of one of his neighbours, that they knew he actually got married to a minor. continue...
Justice M. N. Yunusa of the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu has sentenced Col. Eugene Okpala (retd.) to 7 years in prison in a case of conspiracy, and obtaining money [N34.5m] under false pretences. The convict duped a church, Dominium City Church, of the sum of N34.5million in 2010. The EFCC said in a statement by its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, that 62yrs old Okpala was earlier slated for trial on Wednesday but the case took a different turn when the retired colonel decided to change his plea from “not guilty” to “guilty”. Okpala was said to have in 2008, approached a lawyer Vincent Obetta of Igwurube Chambers and a member of Dominion City Church under the pretext of having large portion of land for sale at N40m.
A crowd besieged Araromi Street in Oshodi area of Lagos State on Friday after a 49-year-old man, Jafaru Sougie, allegedly killed his wife of 26 years. The suspect was said to have poisoned himself thereafter and was vomiting in the bathroom when one of their children, Richmond, woke up. Jafaru had reportedly slit the wife’s throat with a knife around 2am but she was discovered dead at 4am by Richmond and his aunt who raised the alarm. Ekiti State labour leaders on Friday stormed the old Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti, the state secretariat and other government offices to pursue erring civil servants out of their duty posts. The organised labour on Thursday began an indefinite strike to demand the payment of the outstanding five months salaries of workers. It was learnt that members of the organised labour took the workers, who had defied the directive of the labour leaders, by surprise when they swooped on them around 12noon. One of the workers, who did not want his name mentioned, said, “We were busy when the picketing team came in and forced us out of the office. “Initially, we wanted to resist them but they brought out canes and started dragging us out of the offices.”
